In this community there is usually a FAQ that answers everything...
if someone replies to you with 'RTFF' they are urging you to read the FAQ
(frequently asked questions),
ostensibly because the answer is there, so it's always a good idea to look for a link to a FAQ if you have questions...or to offer a link to a FAQ if the questioner seems not to have been able to find it.
That file that you downloaded can work on apple, just fine if the file is good... after you are set up to use that filetype.
I think this is the issue, you just need to get set up, and it's easy:
It IS worth the few minutes it takes to set up your computer to use shorten and flac formats, as opposed to mp3s, which sound good, but are not lossless (more info on this at the link below)
FIRST take a look at this page:
for an easily readable source of reliable info on using shorten with Mac
install 'shorten for mac':
this makes your MAC 'know how to work with shorten/shn"
then install xact: http://etree.org/software/xACT.dmg.gz
this program is used to decompress the files.
then try listening to that John Butler Trio.shn
hopefully, this results in that "aaaah...it was so simple" effect. If so then:
finally, since you now know how to deal with this issue, keep your eye peeled for folks with the same question, and give them a hand if you can. It's a good custom.
